There are many benefits to becoming a CPA, including low unemployment, excellent pay, endless job opportunities in various fields and the respect of business leaders and your community at large.

Get started with these steps:

1. Education Requirements: Current Michigan law requires that CPA candidates complete 150 semester hours of college education, including a Bachelor’s degree or higher degree with a concentration in Accounting, from an accredited institution. View Student Resources.

2. Take The Uniform CPA Exam: In order to meet the requirements for a CPA license, candidates must pass the Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination, a 16-hour, computer-based test comprised of four sections.

3. Experience Requirements: Experience may be gained through employment in government, industry, academia or public practice. 2,000 hours must be completed within a period of not less than one calendar year and not more than five calendar years before your request for certification.
